Balancing Simplicity and Complexity

This class will concentrate on painting abstract paintings with acrylic paint and using acrylic mediums. Emphasis will be on taking shapes, marks and elements out as well as adding new ones, always looking for a balance of simplicity and complexity. Students will be encouraged to work from their own intuition, transferring the energy of their bodies, through the brush, onto the substrate. We will analyze the composition of these shapes using the principles and elements of design. Simple color theory will be discussed. Textural media and collage elements may be used to enhance our work, building layers of complexity and creating a rich surface for our viewers to experience
