Creating Personal Surfaces
This class is about building a repertoire of techniques that can be used in altered books, collages, and paintings.
Students will work with acrylics and other water-based media to create textured and painted surfaces. We'll alter the basic paper surface with gesso, gels, sand, graphite and resists. This class will focus on process and materials. Students will be encouraged to paint freely with the various materials, letting go of any preconceived ideas of the outcome of the work.
The day will end with students making a sample book with a simple piano hinge binding.
