Metals, Metallics and Mixed Media

— filed under:

This class will give you a new outlook on Mixed Media, and open new avenues for your art work. Accomplish “no-fear” experimental painting.

Students will follow their own unique vision while working with a large variety of materials and new techniques, building highly textured abstract paintings. Experimental play will be emphasized. Students will be presented with a series of demonstrations followed by time to work on their individual paintings with one-on–one instruction from the teacher.

Part of the class will be learning about some simple and safe patination techniques on thin copper foil and pieces of brass that can later be added the student’s paintings! Students will learn to exploit the infinite possibilities of various types of metallics – using them to “light up” the highly textured shapes and surfaces that they have created on their paper or canvas.

Design is very important in successful mixed media works. Good design can turn the ordinary work to extraordinary. The role of design in abstract expressionism will be a big part of the class. Students will learn how to use texture, content, movement and color to make their paintings “sing”.

The teacher will also demonstrate some image transfer techniques that work well in blending found images with textural works.

Come prepared to stretch your imagination ! Students will each receive a coil bound book with “recipes” for all of the techniques that are presented in the class.
