Marks and Metals
Utilizing the newest media available students in this class will learn to create many types of textural surfaces and integrate them with calligraphy. As a final project students may create either a collage or a Jacob's Ladder Book with a series of small collages.
Give your works “the Midas touch” using textural faux metallic techniques . Students will learn to make “Patina Papers”, a type of paste paper that looks like metal! We’ll also work with some real metals, learning to etch, emboss and write on copper and brass. Paper, acrylics, metals, foil and leaf will work together with calligraphy and calligraphic marks to build reflective mini collages. These collages will then be used to create a Jacob’s Ladder book – a moving sampler of the various techniques or a small collage featuring calligraphy as the center of interest.
